frequently asked questions
Is Lady Farmer just for farmers and ladies?
Good question, and nope! Lady Farmer is open to anyone looking for a community to support their sustainable lifestyle and incorporate slow living practices into every day.
What is the Lady Farmer Slow Living Retreat?
Our annual retreat is a time to gather with others who embrace a slow-living lifestyle and learn from one another. We bring together specialists in fields such as fermentation, gardening, food preparation, mending, and mindful movement. We offer presentations and discussions on relevant topics such as slow fashion and conscious consumerism, workshops on various topics including natural dyeing, baking with sourdough, self-care and yoga, and slow living experiences such as nature immersions and farm-to-table meals to reconnect you with the earth. The weekend-long retreat has been in-person historically but will be online in 2020 due to Covid19 restrictions. Learn more about this year’s retreat here.
Why are your clothes so expensive?
We understand that our clothing costs more than consumers are accustomed to paying. These items are produced outside of the toxic, exploitative system that is the norm in the fashion industry. However, it is completely free to join our community of people looking for a simpler, more sustainable, and earth-centered lifestyle. We offer free resources in the form of blogs, articles, recipes, and podcast interviews, all found on our site and social media channels.
Do you offer any free resources?
We offer free resources throughout our website that are open to everyone.
- Our blog hosts recipes, interviews, expert guest features, tips and industry information.
- Our podcast The Good Dirt offers actionable takeaways to make our lives and the planet a little better.
- We host live videos and behind the scenes of our Slow Living Retreat on Instagram.
- Each year we host our Slow Living Challenge where we share weekly steps to live a slower, more sustainable day-to-day.
- The Lady Farmer Facebook Group is open to anyone interested in connecting with other women from across the world to share, learn, and grow.
- Our Pinterest page is a growing collection of curated books, resources, tips, guides, and how-to for slow living. We link to both Lady Farmer resources and organizations that offer wonderful advice for mending, baking, cooking, gathering, foraging, gardening, farming, and more.
How does Lady Farmer practice sustainability?
All of our products are carefully made or sourced to ensure they follow our strict environmental and human rights guidelines. We source the highest quality ingredients and materials, as close to nature and as clean, organic and chemical-free as possible. Orders are shipped using limited packaging that is either biodegradable, recyclable or reusable, minimal plastic (goal: zero to minimal waste)! And our products are designed to be long-lasting for multiple uses.
We emphasize a “circular” mindset, or consideration for the entire lifecycle of an item. Specifically, our Lady Farmer clothing is designed for biodegradability, which is why we don’t use elastic, zippers, closures, plastic buttons, etc. Anything on the garment that is not the fabric itself can be easily removed and recycled. The fabrics we use (hemp, organic cotton, linen, lyocell, wool) are selected with the highest regard for human and planetary health, from the cultivation of the raw materials, to production, throughout consumer use and ultimately to the end of the product’s functional life.
We are a member of 1% For the Planet. Through this organization, Lady Farmer commits to contributing 1% of our annual sales to the non-profit of our choice – Fibershed. This organization created a local textile system empowering communities to develop their system of dyes, fibers, and labor for textile use. Learn more here.
Our partners are often local, independently-owned small businesses, usually owned and operated by women! Read about just a few of our partners from past events.
What is the Returns Policy?
We are committed to providing you with the best customer service experience possible. We offer free exchanges or returns for store credit within 14 days of receipt of your product. After this window, we are happy to help facilitate returns/exchanges, but the customer will be responsible for shipping costs.
How Does the sizing work? Where are the plus sizes?

We are always working to grow and improve our apparel offerings. This applies to size inclusivity as well! While we don’t have plus sizes at this time, all the garments we have currently on hand are designed to be adjustable and forgiving.
